This is a classic in our home as the go-to bread whenever we have a wintery soup or stew for dinner. Ready in just over 1h, great to mix in whatever herbs go best with the dinner’s flavours and always a great addition to any table. I tend to follow Felicity Cloake’s recipe but making only half of the size if it’s only 2 of us for dinner. Soda bread doesn’t keep well but it does freeze well, so if you ever find yourself with some leftover just pop it into the freezer. I substitute milk with a bit of lemon juice for the butermilk whenever I didn’t have a chance to get some from the shop and the results are still as strongly welcomed at the table as usual.
